𝐏𝟗𝟕 𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐒𝐄𝐓 𝐀𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐁𝐀𝐓 𝐅𝐎𝐎𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐇
The Vice President, Mr. Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, this morning at Jackalas No.1 announced that the government has approved a budget of P97 million to combat the the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak.
Addressing a kgotla meeting, the Vice President stated that the funds will support short-term measures like vaccination, fences repairs and support of other agencies involved in the FMD control, such as the police, Botswana Defense Force, Local Government and community-led activities.
In addition, the Botswana National Beef Producers Union representative said they are working hand in hand with government to fight the disease. The Union requested for Soda Ash from Botswana Ash, mobilised a private company to assist with transportation of Soda Ash across the country and also created a Disease Control Fund for the public to contribute towards the fight against FMD.
