Our Mandate
The Botswana Veterinary Surgeons Council (BVSC) is a statutory body established under the Veterinary Surgeons Act to regulate the veterinary profession in Botswana. Our primary mandate is to ensure the provision of quality veterinary services, uphold ethical standards, and protect the welfare of the public and animals.

Regulate Education and Training
Regulate education and training within the veterinary profession.
Uphold Professional Standards
Set and ensure the maintenance of professional standards.
Code of Ethics
Define, publish, and enforce the Code of Ethics for the veterinary profession.

Our History
The Botswana Veterinary Surgeons Council was established in 1982 under the Veterinary Surgeons Act, following the recognition of the need for a professional regulatory body to oversee veterinary practice in Botswana.
1982
Establishment of the Botswana Veterinary Board through an Act of Parliament
1998
Review of the Veterinary Regulation Act to improve regulatory oversight.
2008
Enactment of the Veterinary Surgeons Act, which established the Botswana Veterinary Surgeons Council (BVSC).
2012
• 2012 – Appointment and official launch of the Botswana Veterinary Surgeons Council.
