General Requirements for All Applicants

Character Requirements

  • Must be a person of good character and repute
  • Fit and proper person to be registered
  • No history of professional misconduct
  • No criminal convictions related to veterinary practice

Required Documents

  • Certified copies of academic certificates
  • Transcripts of academic records
  • Proof of identity (national ID or passport)
  • Recent passport-sized photographs
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Professional references (minimum 2)
  • Certificate of good standing from previous regulator (if applicable)
  • Proof of internship completion (for veterinarians)

Important Notes

• All documents must be certified copies unless otherwise specified
• Photographs must be recent (not older than 6 months)
• All fees must be paid in full before processing
• Incomplete applications will not be processed

Veterinarian Specific Requirements

Veterinary Surgeons Registration

Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent

Academic Requirements

  • Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
  • Degree must be from a recognized and accredited institution
  • Completion of at least one year of internship or supervised practice
  • Good standing with previous regulatory bodies (if applicable)
  • No criminal record related to professional practice
  • Proof of professional indemnity insurance

Registration Evidence Required

  • Proof of academic qualifications (certified copy)
  • Written evidence of good character from veterinary school or registering body
  • Passport details (non-citizens) or Omang (citizens)
  • Recent passport photographs certified as true likeness

Animal Health Technician Specific Requirements

Veterinary Para-Professional Registration

Diploma in Animal Health or equivalent qualification

Academic Requirements

  • Diploma in Animal Health or equivalent qualification
  • Qualification must be from a recognized institution
  • Completion of required practical training hours
  • Good character and professional conduct
  • No record of professional misconduct
  • Willingness to participate in continuing education

Character Evidence Source

  • Non-citizens: Equivalent body from country of origin OR last registering body
  • Citizens (new graduates): University or institution that issued qualification
  • Three referees who have known applicant for at least 2 years

Temporary Registration Requirements

Temporary Practice Registration

For limited duration practice in Botswana

Additional Requirements

  • Written and signed request from organization/person affected
  • Specified period of temporary registration
  • Proof of employment offer in Botswana (if applicable)

Validity & Restrictions

  • Limited validity period (specified in application)
  • May be location-specific
  • Cannot be renewed indefinitely - must apply for full registration

Required for Previously Registered Applicants

Must be submitted directly to BVSC Council

IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS

Original Letter Required:

Must be sent directly from the statutory body to BVSC Council

Certified Copy Required:

Certificate of registration from country where last practicing

Who Needs It?

  • All non-citizen applicants
  • Citizen applicants who have practiced in other countries
  • Applicants re-registering after removal from register

Information Required

  • Current registration status
  • No conditions or restrictions
  • No disciplinary proceedings pending
  • Good standing with regulatory body

Information Accuracy

All information in the application must be true and correct

Professional Conduct

Never been debarred from practice in any country due to misdemeanor or professional misconduct

Criminal Record

Never been convicted of extortion, bribery, theft, fraud, forgery, uttering forged documents, or perjury with imprisonment without option of fine
