Regulated Professions
The Botswana Veterinary Surgeons Council regulates two main categories of veterinary professionals: Veterinarians and Animal Health Technicians. Each profession has specific educational requirements, scope of practice, and registration criteria.
Veterinarians
Protect the health and well-being of both animals and people through the diagnosis and treatment of animal diseases and disorders.

- Perform surgical procedures

- Provide public health services
Animal Health Technicians
Focus largely on primary animal health care and play an important role in animal disease control to support animal and veterinary public health.
- Assist veterinarians in clinical procedures
- Conduct basic animal health examinations
- Administer medications and vaccinations
- Provide animal care and husbandry advice
